Taking a deep breath…

It has been a challenging few days. Two family members are dealing with serious health issues, which is weighing on me. I am concerned for them both and they are far enough away that there isn’t much I can do except pray and petition God for their healing and comfort. Not that prayer is ineffective – but I am a recovering “doer” and “fixer” and it’s hard to be so helpless when people I love are hurting.

Life in general, though, is good – I’m past a “jeweler’s block” (or whatever the equivalent of writer’s block is for jewelry people) and diving in head-first into a couple of fun projects. It’s my great privilege to be working with Kate McKinnon as part of the editorial team on the final manuscript of her new book – getting an advance peek at some of that astonishing work is just mind-blowing. Humbling and mind-blowing. I’m working with Melissa Muir on putting together a jewelry artist retreat in the Pacific Northwest late next year, and working on my curriculums for the teaching I’ll be doing at Wired Designs starting in January. I’m also helping them and another friend update their respective websites, and – always – spending time in the studio, which makes me so happy.

And my dear daughter is coming home for a visit in one month’s time. I cannot wait to see her, to hold her, to just spend some normal time with her watching movies, cooking, hanging out.

Lots to be thankful for, in other words.

New stuff has been going into the shop regularly, including these pretties:

Francesca Watson Designs

Garnet Cluster Earrings

Abstract Geometric Argentium Silver Ring

Sable Brown Freshwater Pearl Earrings

Francesca Watson Designs

Handmade dichroic glass cabochons set in Argentium silver; handmade chain.

I am particularly fond of that last one – I made the cabochons in addition to the setting and the chain, and I feel like I am finally getting the hang of the photography side of things. It’s enormously satisfying, at the same time that it’s a little frustrating – at this point, I am sorely tempted to go back and reshoot all the stuff in my shop, but it would be so time consuming that I keep talking myself out of it. What do you think? Is there a big enough difference between that last photo and the first three to justify it?

And finally, don’t forget there’s a giveaway going on through the end of the week – you can check out my post about it here. Hope everyone is having a great week!

    1. I hope your loved ones are on the road to health.
    2. I don’t think you need to redo your pictures. They all have the same background, so there is a sense of unity to them.
    3. Where in the Pacific NW will your retreat be? I live about an hour south of Seattle, WA

Thanks so much for the input and good wishes, Linda. And the retreat will probably be a bit south of you, near the Oregon/Washington border. Close enough that you can come, I hope! 🙂

Oh Yes! The Portland, OR area or the Vancouver, WA area are very assessable to me. I’m curious to know more about your conference & what it will focus on. It wouls be wonderful to meet you in “real life”.

First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I believe in prayer.

Second, I’m gobsmacked by your designs and would love to own that last piece — are you selling it, or making more of that style?

Thank you, Lori, for your prayers. I too believe in prayer, so I am very grateful for yours.

Second, thank you for liking my work – I am humbled that you like that last piece so much, especially. I am working toward making more of that style – I think that’s where my work is heading generally – but at the moment that’s the only one available. The Etsy listing is here if you want to take a look: https://www.etsy.com/listing/115971205/glass-and-silver-statement-necklace If for some reason that doesn’t work for you, message me and I’d be happy (delighted! honored!) to do a custom piece for you. 🙂
