As hard as it is for me to believe, our very first Metal Retreat is just 2-1/2 months away!!

That means that in 2-1/2 months, my good friend Melissa Muir and I will be spending a week in the company of a dozen other metal, glass, and jewelry enthusiasts, playing with fire, trying out new techniques, collaborating on group projects, and just generally having a grand old time. And as if that wasn’t enough, we’re going to be doing it all in the breathtaking Pacific Northwest, with gorgeous vistas to ogle, nature walks to walk, and photos to take.

Yeah. That photo was taken in Trout Lake, Washington, where the retreat is happening. Stunning, hmmm?

The attendees are demoing some of their favorite techniques and processes. So far, we’ll be:

  • Learning how to use a hydraulic press
  • Fold-forming
  • Enameling (with torches and a kiln!)
  • Playing with resin
  • Experimenting with casting pewter (I am SO EXCITED about this one!)
  • Talking about ways nature inspires our designs
  • Learning tips to use with metal clay
  • Making glass cabochons

AND: we have two spots that opened up unexpectedly a couple of weeks ago. We’re really sad about the folks who were unable to come, but it means there’s room for YOU if you’re interested. Check out the Retreat page for more info!

Looks like this will be a beautiful great time. Sadly it’s too far away for me.
Re the pewter casting, I took Kim St. Jean’s class at B&B. She is the “founder” of this new techinique and my class was her first teaching time it. There are soooo many new possibilities, and it’s very different from melting lead free silver solder on metal and rubber stamps. You’ll love it!
