It’s a blog walk!

I’m participating in a blog walk for the first time ever – and it’s about color palettes, which I love. Hosted by the oh-so-talented Brandi (have you seen her shop??), our instructions were to make up color palettes from photos of things that bring us joy.

It wasn’t hard to pick them. I could have chosen photos of my loved ones, or worship at my church, or any number of things, but the three below came immediately to mind. I hope you enjoy, and don’t forget to check out the other Blog Walk participants at the end of this post.

A beach in Hawaii, near Diamond Head.

If I ever win the lottery, Hawaii is where we’ll go to live.  Both Nick and I feel like entirely different people when we’re there, and the three years we lived on Oahu in the early 90’s are among our favorite memories. I took this photo during our trip there in 2009 – it was near sunset and the light was just luminous. The colors don’t scream “Hawaii” to me, but there’s something about the stillness of the water and the way it so perfectly reflects the sky that speaks of peace and contentment to me – and that’s what Hawaii means when I think of it.

A sea lion, Sea Life Park

During that same trip, I had the amazing experience of swimming with dolphins for the first time ever. On the way back to the car, we passed the sea lion exhibit, and this sea lion seemed to be posing, just for me.  I have no idea how this photo came out the way it did – the water looks silky and I love his sinuous sleek shape.

Red Creek Jasper Pendant, 2011

And of course, making my jewelry brings me great joy. I’d do it all day, every day if I could.

    Francesca, these are so fabulous!

My favorite has to be the first – I’m originally from Hawaii and I love seeing home through the eyes of someone else. You’re right, the colors you captured don’t immediately scream Hawaii, but I think that makes it even better, don’t you? There are so many sides to Hawaii, so many things to discover, and I love that you’ve captured, and are celebrating, that!

I think it also hits me because Hawaii is where I go to relax and unwind, so this palette makes me so happy.

How long did you live there? Growing up, I spent most of my time on the Windward side – Kaneohe, Kailua, Waimanalo.

Thanks, Brandi – I love that first one too. I think I knew you were from Hawaii originally, but had forgotten it until you posted your comment. We lived in Kailua for a year and then Kaneohe for two. We really loved it – my husband lived there for 10 years at one point in his life, and I think it is really his heart’s home.

I think I need to put a copy of this up in my studio!!

Beautiful palettes! I especially love that first photo – such a calming scene (plus, I’m a sucker for reflections on water)

Hello Francesca! It was fun visiting your blog for the first time! I am struck by your amazing photography…your Blog Walk pictures are so gorgeous. Hawaii has a special place in my heart as well, as that was where we went on our honeymoon. I fell in love with macadamia nut pie!
I color palette found in your ocean shot is one of my favorite color combinations, with the soothing blues and creams. Your necklace is just gorgeous, btw!!
