In other news…

My computer actually died, finally.

Broken Laptop - Screen Shot

I don’t think it’s supposed to look like that!

That’s what the screen would start doing, and then the whole thing would freeze. Fixing it would have been a crap shoot and costly, especially since it was more than five years old. We bit the bullet and bought a new laptop, so I’ve spent the last few days getting to know the new addition and making sure all my stuff got transferred over. (May I say that Apple has that whole process wired? Essentially painless, provided you do your backups regularly…) In spite of how beautiful it is, I wasn’t planning on this transition for this week – I much prefer to do these things with a little planning. Ah well.

Apple MacBook Pro

Hello beautiful!

Then, this morning, we woke up to no hot water. No amount of effort on our part will get the pilot light relit on the hot water heater, although we have gas pressure at all our other appliances. I am waiting for a friend from church (who also happens to be helping us with the bathroom remodeling) to come over and look at it, and trying not to think about the condition of our bank account, which is curled up in a fetal position desperately trying to protect its vital organs.

And I need a shower. Badly.

And I’m still working on the taxes.

So today is just covered in awesome. (Not really.)

But I did have a terrific time teaching an intermediate soldering class this past weekend with two really fun ladies – didn’t they do a great job?

Soldering II Projects - Wired Designs - San Antonio

Prong set abalone shell (left); bezel set fused glass cabochon (right)

Even more fun, the glass cabochon on the right is one I made. I’ve gotten a little addicted to glass fusing (like I need another thing to get obsessed over), and it was fun to see how someone else saw my cabs.

I’ve been battling a bad fibro flare up, triggered (I think) by the sudden barometric shifts during all the thunderstorms we had last week. It’s been a rough one – the roughest I’ve had in months, and I’ve just given myself permission to let down a little as I deal with it. Unfortunately, there’s a lot going on right now and I don’t have time to do what I want to do (and what would probably solve the problem), which is to go to bed for a couple of days and just rest.

So that’s my update – I’ll be so glad when these taxes are done and my bank account has had a little respite from all these expenses. How are things in your world??

Oh bless ya Francesca, I have had those weeks too. Not sprinkled with entrepreneurial bling, for sure! Love the description of the “bank account” too funny! I bit the bullet and got a new laptop last year, definitely a much nicer ride once it’s broken in. Hang in there and enjoy that shower, when it comes 🙂

Haha! Yup, definitely not sprinkled with entrepreneurial bling. Thankfully, the water heater is functional for the moment, so I can shower, but it will have to be replaced soon. Bummer. 🙁

We’re having the same day! Ditto the laptop…still working on our taxes… we do have hot water, but no A/C and it’s been 80 degrees in the house for the last 3 days!

Your students did such awesome work. If I didn’t live 1000 miles away, I would love a seat at the table when you offer that class again!

Hey Karin – that stinks about the A/C!! Hope you’re able to get it fixed quickly and inexpensively. 🙂

We offer the soldering classes fairly regularly – if there’s ever a chance you could be in San Antonio, we’d love to have you. And we’re offering Soldering I and Soldering II back to back on July 5 and 6, just in case you’re really interested! It’s the only time this year we’re doing that.

Ewwww Taxes,…oh, that’s just a dirty word! The water heater and bank account things are never fun and neither are unexpected computer problems or purchases for that matter!! I hope things get better here shortly for you – sounds like a mighty tough week for sure! Hang in there!

Thanks, Michelle – ME TOO!! (BTW, I pulled out all my bead soup stuff last night and started arranging and re-arranging it on my workbench. I’m getting excited – I have a couple of ideas already!)
