A while back, I shared the big news that I was going to be joining two groups of talented artists in their respective on-line communities. One of them is a brand-new site, Artisan Whimsy, an outgrowth of the very popular and active Creative Beadchat Facebook Group started by Melinda Orr, and it officially launches this morning. Woo-hoo!
Melinda has teamed up with Marla James and Karen Totten to create an ambitious site focused on expanding the social aspects of the Facebook group with topic-specific forums, tutorials and blog posts. Over time, we’ll be adding a marketplace, live video classes, and more. Melinda and her team have worked incredibly hard to make this an attractive and meaningful place for jewelry people to hang out, share ideas, and support one another. And I have to say that, as a new member of this particular community, this is a group of incredibly generous and supportive people. I’m going to be coordinating the contributions of a very talented group of metal artists, and it has been a lot of fun and a huge encouragement to work with these other leaders over the last two weeks.
Today only, the site is wide open and available to anyone who wants to sign up. (After today, you’ll need to request membership, which will still be free.) If you’re a jewelry artist with an interest in being in community with other handmade jewelry artists, head over to the new site and take a look around. In the next month, there will be give-aways and contests, and there are already a lot of wonderful tutorials and tips posted in all sorts of different disciplines. It’s going to be a tremendous resource for jewelry artists of all kinds, and I’m so excited to be a part of it!
Congratulations, Melinda, Marla and Karen – you’ve worked hard and it shows. Hoping we have an awesome launch day! (And thanks for letting me be part of the team!)
